Project Lilypad (PL)- is for youth who have voluntarily elected to remain in DFCS custody until the age of 21 that are prepared for independent living.
Age Requirement:
Must be between the ages of 18 and 21 at the time of referral.
Foster Care Background:
Left foster care, or will leave foster care within 90 days, in accordance with a transition plan described in Section 475(5)(H) of the Social Security Act at age 16 or older.
Educational or Employment Status:
Must be enrolled in an educational program (high school, GED program, college, vocational training) or employed for at least 20 hours per week.
Willingness to Participate in Support Programs:
Must be willing to actively participate in support programs offered through their referral agency and Lilypad community, including life-skills workshops, counseling, and community-building activities.
Background Check:
Must pass a background check to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the community. (Note: A criminal record does not automatically disqualify an applicant; circumstances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.)
Personal Statement:
Must submit a personal statement or essay explaining why they are interested in and would benefit from participation in Project Lillypad’s micro-community housing program.
Commitment to Community Living Standards:
Must be willing to adhere to community living standards, which may include shared responsibilities, respect for fellow residents, and abiding by the rules and policies of the housing facility.
Please note that eligibility requirements may vary based on location and available funding. Additionally, satisfying these criteria does not guarantee admission into the program, as there may be limited availability.
